Description

This is the inside of a sea rock, washed up on a beach. It looked like nothing more than the others coming in with the tide but it had broken in the surf. Inside was a pocket of crystals, likely calcite as found in land caves but more defined. Possibly this concretion of sand, shell fragments and rock formed a sealed pocket and minerals were there to allow the crystals to form from solution. How old? Who knows. With the next tide, all the sea rocks were gone. This image is about 1 inch or 25mm of crystals. Post work is extreme high pass fiter with blend into the background. Into the mouth of an alien, that is how it looked to me.

Lovely crystal shapes, reminding of the quartsite formations we find locally. Very appropriately titled.

This is very beautiful I never thought about rocks from the sea. I have salt crystals from a mine under one of the great lakes that are pretty good size but that's not from the sea and not a sea rock. Excellent shot.
