Description

Martin's Station was a small settlment with stockade on the western part of pioneering advances in the mid 1700's. It was about claiming land rights and all this during turmoil with The Crown. The Crown was the British who held those colonies in North America. A friend reenacts a raid at Martin's Station each year, fighting off natives and French paid and instigated by The Crown. Perhaps, not paid. : ) The scene today allowed very poor view of all and this is the only decent shot. The edge of the stockade is left in the photo. The Cumberland Mountains are the background. My friend is sleeping tonight in a small cabin much as those would do in the 18th century. No city lights, a sky full of stars, coyote voices in the night and the owls...and keep a fire going to cook tomorows morning meal. A few miles to the left of this scene is Cumberland Gap, an historically known traverse through the mountain range.
