Description

I was going to have a nice lie in this morning. Yes, the dog and I had said goodbye to my other half when he set off to work and snuggled back down under the duvet. Ah, what bliss! The warmth and comfort had started to work its magic and I could feel myself drifting off to sleep again, but for some reason I glanced up in my sleepy state and it was then that I saw it. Up in the corner of the room was a dark shadow, it looked big even from where I lay. I closed my eyes again, this was my lie in and if I ignored the 'thing' perhaps I might still be able to enjoy it. But of course I couldn't. Now don't get me wrong, it's not that I am really scared of spiders...I'm not an arachnophobic or anything (not that I don't understand the fear of those that are) it is just that I didn't fancy having one of them sharing my cosy lie-in. I peered at the wall again, sure enough it was still there and in fact didn't show signs of moving but I wasn't fooled. Oh no, I knew that if I did fall asleep again that there was a very good chance that the creepy crawler would head my way and invite itself onto the bed. Paranoid, me...surely not, but why take a chance eh. I pictured those eight furry little legs carrying him closer to me as I slept and realised it really was no good, the lie in was over. So I gently pulled back the covers, well I didn't want to startle it...unlikely you say? Hmm, not taking any chances remember. I scuttled into the kitchen with the dog close behind me, no doubt wondering why we had left the warmth of the bed, as I grabbed a glass and a carelessly discarded envelope from the previous days post (it's handy sometimes, not being the tidiest person). Then back to the bedroom where I slowly edged to the corner where the spider still crouched (poised to leap no doubt!) on the lilac patterned wallpaper. I moved a chair that handily resides in the bedroom so that I would be able to reach high enough. Up onto the chair I climbed, envelope and glass in hands ready to do battle. Hovering the glass ever nearer to the beastie I moved slow and steady just in case it saw me, but as it was I need not have worried unduly as it put up no resistance. Glass firmly placed over it; I put the envelope into play and cut of any exit as I lifted the glass from the wall. 'Victory! Well, my furry friend' (or should that be fiend, you decide) 'Time for you to be evicted'. The dog looked up at me with a bored expression, from the bed where he had plonked himself down obviously having decided that no matter what this mad woman thought, his lie in was definitely not over, thoroughly unimpressed it seemed by my spider wrangling. I carried the safely contained arachnid out to the back door, but on the way passed my camera and thought that it might be an idea to record the foe as proof to show my other half that I can indeed deal with spiders myself. So here you have it, a photograph of my bedroom intruder...now relocated to a leafy corner of my garden. What do you mean it doesn't look that scary? I realise that my renderosity friends in other countries may encounter bigger and scarier spiders everyday, but come on would you want to share your boudoir with any of the eight-legged beasties?? Hmm, I have just had a thought...perhaps I won't show my man the photo of the spider otherwise, next time there is one in the bedroom late at night when I don't want to get out of bed, he might just turn round and tell me to deal with it myself! And that would never do...would it girls. So do me a favour eh...ssssh, don't tell him.

Hopefully he/she/it (not an expert here) doesn't take it personally, otherwise your new friend may return with reinforcements and you may run out of glasses and/or envelopes. You'll never get to just lie around again.
