Description

Hello again! (continued) It is now only 13 years ago when some fellas in Berlin- Kreuzberg, a neighborhood with many strangers, had the stupid idea to organize a little street festivities, where the local punk band could play outside of the cellar and the turkish neighbors were invited to play some of their traditional music and offer some of their food.... Since 1996 the litte street fiesta grew up to the "Carnival of Cultures", one of the biggest and most important carnevals of the world: The last carneval at sunday have seen nearly 5.000 actors from many different countries of the world. More than 1,3 Mio. people came as visitors, a great bunch of them from all parts of the world and directly to this biggest event of the year in Berlin. The local TV channel and the Berlin broadcasting stations presented this phenomenon the whole 4 days. It seems as if the Berlin idea of this special "culture clash" bases on the idea of the "Notting Hill Carnival", who started 1975 in London. There is another carnival this style in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. It is older then ours, too. (Thanks, MickUK for your information, I did a little i-net- recherche) (to be continued) Thanks for your interest in this colorful fiesta, I hope you enjoy it as I did. It was a great mother`s day, believe me! Bye

Such vibrant colour Wolfgang, this to me is what carnival is about, the really vivid colours, the flamboyant costumes and the joy of the people. Why oh why can we not live in the peace and harmony that this carnival portrays. Superb clarity and detail, this chap front right, would look great as a Apache brave in a cowboy, he looks like an American Indian, especially with the paint on his face. Excellent work. Bravo!!!!! Thank you for taking my picture in the spirit it was posted, a fun picture.
