Description

Nikon 7900 pocket camera - hand held image. I have noticed this young male Anole lizard for more than a couple of weeks as he spent a lot of time on the front porch of my house. It was easy to know who he was because he had lost most of this tail. In fact, the wound was still pretty fresh the first time I was aware of him. As you can see, he has started growing a new tail and the loss seems to have caused no serious harm. This type of lizard does not drop it's tail voluntarily as do some species of skinks that are common in my area. Something bit it off. In this capture, he is advertising his desire for a mate. He finds a good location and then puffs out this red throat pouch. He hopes it will impress the lady lizards. As young as he is, it is doubtful he will be successful this year, lol. Tomorrow I will show you a full grown specimen who has been successful. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee
