Description
Way back when I first decided to get into doing digital artwork, I bought Lost Realms from DAZ. I thought it would be so cool to do a mermaid. Of course, they were also giving away the Oriental Dragon so I got that too. Well, my first picture ended up being the Oriental Dragon.
And then my five year old daughter discovered that I was doing cool pictures on my computer and she wanted me to do fairies, which is why so many of my first pictures are of faires. She would pick out the outfits, hair, etc. After a while, she became impatient because rending took a while. So she lost interest and I was able to move on to other things.
Anyway, I came across Oceana for V4 on Renderosity and it reminded me of my first purchase. And thus, I created a mermaid picture. And, of course, she had to interact with a little dragon. :) (I used the same purple texture that I'd created for another picture on the dragon.)
This picture ended up taking LOTS of postwork in Photoshop CS3. At first it seemed like a simple thing. But then I just couldn't get the water to look right in my renders. So I ended up painting the water. I painted the mountains too and did lots of other little tweaks, which meant that this picture took a while to complete. Hope you like it! :)

I like it! Great work! Faries are fine, but you have to do a mermaid pic or two, just to round things out. Very nicely done.

The two friends are delightful, and I truly enjoy seeing that shade of purple against her red hair. You've shown their joy well. I do miss a sense of their being anchored to the scene, though, and I believe it comes from their lacking shadows.
