Description

The last few days have been crazy..The fires here in Santa Cruz Started just a few miles from my house and has gotten closer an closer..as close as 2000 feet from our property on one side and still raging out of control about a half mile away on the other side..I have been raking,weed eating and removing as much burnable stuff as i can,i also have to scout for small fires and embers all the time..Today i found an ember on my driveway as big as a cantalope,it looked like it was super heated and popped like popcorn.We live on 6 really steep acres in the redwood forest an its impossible to make it completely fire safe. Helecopters fly over every 5 minutes or so dropping water so close i can feel the spray,the smoke is thick and stings your eyes and wrecks your throat..I sent the family down the canyon to a neighbors and am here alone,except for a neighbor below me and my dog Lily..They say it is 35 percent contained..I dont really see it at this end...There was a chance of rain today but it didnt happen...last night i watched most of the ridge across from me burn,sometimes it was a s bright as day when a clump of trees would ignite...I love this place and am crushed beyond anyones realization...I am not gonna leave either..I have spent my whole life getting here,this is my dream and i wont let it go up in smoke without a fight with all the strength i have..we were told to evacuate days ago..if i did my place would be gone right now..I need to go back out and patrol with Lily the super dog...Wish me luck and strength and pray for the weather to help us out..and for my friends and neighbors who have lost thier homes and sanity(i am sure)I pray that something good will come your way..and i am sorry....Truelly sorry...
