Description

The English landscape has two delightful and unique features, totally foreign to this visitor from across the pond - hedgerows and public footpaths. The hedgerows create beautiful landscapes, provide barriers for stock, habitat for wildlife, and aid in prevention of soil erosion. Strips of land are dedicated by landowners for use as a public footpath or Public Right of Way, have been in existence for hundreds of years, and offered a most charming opportunity to explore the countryside. Thank you very much for your views and comments.

I'd love to spend the day walking through this lovely scene. It has a feeling of new-mowed grass and fresh breezes to it.

Ahh Maria.......... if you did but know our English footpaths cause many a problem between the landowners and the publics 'right of way'. As you say many public footpaths have been in existence for hundreds of years.. but you wouldnt believe how much animosity they cause between organisations like 'The Ramblers Association' and the current landowners! Bickering over a few inches this way or a few feet that way!........ or even if it should be 'marching straight across' their cornfield in the 1st place! LOL Once again though you have done our little overcrowded island beautiful justice

This could be a perfect setting for the novel Tess of the d'Urbervilles, by Thomas Hardy. Just wonderful, so serene as well!
