Description

Now we're looking upstream toward the town of Hood River about 10 miles east of Dog Mtn. In the original full-sized image I can just make out the bridge across the Columbia, but it got lost in the resize. What you can clearly see is the Hood River Valley stretching from left center across the photo to the right. This valley is the perfect place for fruit trees, and there are zillions of apple, pear, and cherry trees on both the Oregon and Washington sides of the river in this area. This is also the transition zone from the rain forest to the high desert. You can see that the hills on the other side of the valley are not covered with trees. There is noticably less rain just that far away. Thanks for stopping by and any comments.

I have seen that climate line in our Sierras when traveling from California into Nevada. Its amazing what a difference just a few miles can make. This is an awesome shot. I find the layers of green are a perfect match for the layers of muted blues toward the horizon. The angle of the river is also great.

We lived up the road in The Dalles where the temps were in the low 100's in the summer and cold with snow in the winter. There is plenty of cherry orchard up above The Dalles too. It's just before you reach the desert. Great photo of the beautiful area Dennis.

What a gorgeous view! Seeing the tree-covered slopes with the more barren hills in the background is fascinating. The transition is quite marked! Thanks for posting this - awesome image!
