Description

This is an expanded view of my entry into the Bryce Forum Architecture Challenge, the format size would only allow for a view of the top area. I went back to nature for my inspiration, using the idea of bracket fungus growing out of an old tree stump. The island is a custom terrain created in the terrain editor and rendered in a mountain preset.I then duplicated this, cut away some of the terrain shape, and rendered in a foliage preset, giving me the look of vines growing on the rock-face. The buildings are all primitive shapes, with the exception of the arch shape, which is from Spacebones.I used a concrete preset combined with my own window template, which I added in the bump and reflection channels to produce glass windows. The roofs are an architecture preset combined with a basic grid bumpmap.I also used an etched gold preset for the bridge arches and tops of spires. The monk figures were created in the terrain editor out of lattice terrains, using the same principle I used in my image "Elevated Walkways".I used a soft brush with low flow, set to a low elevation, and painted the shape of a figure in the terrain editor. This I rendered in a preset flesh texture, then I duplicated it,and in the editor again,I raised the elevation slightly and painted a robe over the figure. Then, lowering the elevation setting,I removed the figure, leaving me with just the robe. When I returned to my work window,I now had a figure and robe in perfect alignment. All I had to do was group them together, and render the robe in a preset colour and viola! The figure was duplicated seven times(although you can only see six in this view),the robe colour changed, and then they were scattered to various locations throughout the scene. So there it is,a week's work...now I need a rest! Thanks for viewing and all your previous comments!

Cool trick with the terrain people! I just use Poser figures, normally. For small figures, your way probably saves a lot of polygons, though.

I think this is one of your best. I love how the buildings are merged into the terrain. I'd so love to live in a place like that (provided I have high-speed internet, of course....)
