Worth the zoom, and your words are very poignant Kevin, yes, we should assume they do feel the loss, man takes the animal world for granted IMHO, assumng that certain animals don't have this power of thought and comprehension, how can we know for sure? - And it certainly looks like this one is in deep thoughts of children and siblings gone, a very nice capture indeed, thanks for sharing.

The lighting here is perfect. The detail so fine it appears she has whiskers. I don't think there is sadness in the loss of chicks but there is a sense of loss. Nature will allow her to lay another clutch within a few days and she will never remember the lost chicks.

personal opinion is cats .there seem to be a lot more of them of late .they are always hanging round the birdfeeders and stalking the birds .i have been protecting a bb fledgling and it made it ok after a few days :o)..cracking shot kevin mick
