Description

I noticed one of our resident blackbirds in the garden sat very close to me, seemingly in deep thought. I have found one or two dead babies around the garden, we wondered do they feel the loss, she was certainly distracted by something? Please try full size. Many thanks for comments, tips and your time.

Worth the zoom, and your words are very poignant Kevin, yes, we should assume they do feel the loss, man takes the animal world for granted IMHO, assumng that certain animals don't have this power of thought and comprehension, how can we know for sure? - And it certainly looks like this one is in deep thoughts of children and siblings gone, a very nice capture indeed, thanks for sharing.

The lighting here is perfect. The detail so fine it appears she has whiskers. I don't think there is sadness in the loss of chicks but there is a sense of loss. Nature will allow her to lay another clutch within a few days and she will never remember the lost chicks.
