Description

The quintessential California flower~~old history tells us that when Sir Francis Drake first sailed into San Francisco Bay, he thought there was gold just lying on the hills. But alas~~it was only the poppy, golden and gleaming in the sun!!

Our gardens are similar in this aspect...alysium and CA poppies planted side by side. I have learned to abhore the CA poppies. They have reseeded everywhere including the cracks of the walkways and the yard! But they are pretty as you show with this outstanding shot.

I think she's got it! I think she's got it! A superb shot of our state's official flower, this time ensconced amidst other kinds of flora. Now, this is how I remember poppies...the old garden variety California type.

"All that glitters is not gold." I've had the red ones in the past, but they're not as beautiful as these. And they bloom all Summer. Really nice capture, Marilyn.

I love California poppies. My grandparents had loads of 'em in their gardens when I was growing up, and they were always one of my favorites. I still think they're pretty wonderful! Nice capture. I like them with the alyssum!

I love these flowers ... they are so like the 'stars' in my poem weeds which ends: Weeds they are, most certainly – enduring, tenacious, intrusive and generously fecund. Weeds, which at the glorious crown of the day, the purple twilight, glow neon-bright tart yellow and sweet orange, earth-bound nova endlessly renewed. They caress my sleeping senses, gladden my hardened heart. I will ever cultivate and cherish these wayward wandering waifs. Mike
