Description

I promised you more information about the mare from yesterday's images. This is Cheyenne. Some of you may remember a story from about five years ago about a horse ranch in Millican Valley, Oregon, owned by Wayne and Bunny Nichols. 129 sick, starving and neglected horses were rescued from the ranch, there were more horses that hadn't made it, and the Nichols couple did jail time for animal abuse. Cheyenne was one of the horses rescued from Millican Valley. Nobody really knows her history, of course, but this is her person's experience: Cheyenne is docile, calm, and easy to get along with. Put a blanket on her back, and she's fine. Saddle her up, and she just stands there. Climb up in the saddle? Yikes! She starts bucking like a rodeo bronc! As soon as she's thrown you off, she stops bucking and just stands there calmly. They think she was probably used as a trainer for rodeo riders. I know she looks really tired in this shot, but give her a break - she'd just given birth six hours earlier! :)

Excellent Portrait, what stories could those eyes tell, I am perversly glad she throws riders off, never been one for sitting astride an animals back and virtually forcing it to carry you, not you personaly of course, and what a great thing they did to liberate the horse, and bring it to this fine specemin of beauty..Full marks to them and to you Tara for a wonderful shot!

Thanks to Cheyenne's new owners, there's a new and unspoilt colt in our world who will likely bring much joy! Well done. This portrait is lovely. I find myself focussing on her knowing eyes and that beautiful velvet muzzle! Fabulous capture!

Actually, I was thinking she looked relieved! :-) Not long ago we had a lady surrender horses, sheep, goats, all in horrendous condition. She knew she couldn't care for them. many horses were put down. Their hoofs had never been trimmed and their feet looked like a duck's - all long and flat, and they curled up on the ends. Many were blind. The sheep had never been sheared and had 50 pounds of wool on them...! The owner really did care about the animals, she just didn't know how to care for them nor did she have the money to do it. But she waited about 3 years too long to cry for help. This is a lovely horse. Will she pull a cart perhaps? that might be her forte.

Great story, Tarasame thing just happened here, though I don't think the people went to jail. Love the part about the bucking bronco, good for her, I can just hear her thinking,, "Will they ever get it"!!! And to her I say~~"neigh, whinny"~~that's horse for, "You go girl"!!!!!!

Cheyenne: "You talkin' to me, Big Brown! Don't be messin' with me!" I am glad that they were able to rescue these horses! We have a retirement farm here in Orange County for police and race horses. I think I'll go get some pictures!

Have to agree, it's always nice to have a happy ending, and they don't get much happier than this one. She does look a tad on the tired side but wouldn't anybody else look just about the same. A nice way to end your trip as well Tara, with a good story. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!
