- Caryatis - by NekhbetSun

There an open-air temple was dedicated to Carya, the Lady of the Nut-Tree, whose priestesses were called the Caryatidai. Carya was a virgin who had been transformed into a nut-tree for her unchastity with Dionysus.
This particular form of veneration of Artemis at Caryae suggests that in pre-classical ritual Carya was the goddess of the nut tree who was later assimilated into the Olympian goddess Artemis.
Each year women performed a dance called the Caryatis
at a festival in honor of Artemis Caryatis. * * * Enjoy your history lesson? ...class dismissed :o) Wishing everyone a super day and as always, thanks so much for comments n faves !!! ~ Love & Hugs ~ * Mina * Credits: www.mjranum.deviantart.com www.aethereality.net
