Hi, I am Sig (junge1),
I was born in Dominikus- Krankenhaus in Berlin-Hermsdorf, Bezirk Reinickendorf in December 1939. Bezirk Reinickendorf was one of 20 Bezirke that made up Gross-Berlin before World War II and one of 12 Bezirke that made up former West-Berlin, the other 8 Bezirke were Russian occupied and became East-Berlin after the war. Moved from Berlin to Neurohlau (Nova Role) Sudetenland (now Czech Republic), in August 1943 (our entire block of apartment buildings was bombed out in November 1943) and returned back to Berlin in November 1945. Saw my dad the first time in my life in August/September 1946 after he returned from POW camp. Attended elementary school in Berlin-Waidmannslust, high school in Berlin-Hermsdorf, and trade school in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Was an apprentice for the trade of Klischeeaetzer (photo engraver) at Burrath & Schmidt on Friedrichstrasse between U-Bahnhof Kochstrasse (near to what later became Checkpoint Charlie) and Hallisches Tor.
While watching Allied planes supplying West-Berlin by air during the Berliner Luftbruecke in 1948-49 I developed my love for aircraft. I guess I could be considered a 'Berliner Grosschnauze", or at least I used to be.
'Wanderlust' led me to leave Berlin in summer 1960 to emigrate to Toronto, Canada and in February 1962 to move from Canada to New York City, NY, USA. In January 1963 I joined the United States Air Force, one step ahead of Uncle Sam drafting me. Became a United States citizen within 7 weeks after it became a security issue because of my military career. One day after I was sworn in as a citizen in Seattle, my entire unit left for Southeast Asia in June 1966. After nearly 5 years of active duty (extended 11 months to make it an 18 months overseas deployment) I got discharged and moved to New York City. In 1973 I moved to Phoenix, Arizona and two years later joined the Arizona Air National Guard.
Received my higher education at Arizona State University and the University of Georgia and worked for 22 years for the Arizona Department of Water Resources in various capacities. Upon military retirement in 1999 and State retirement in 2005 I looked at a number of things to keep me occupied. Traveling and joining 'renderosity' in September 2007 were a couple of them,

Wow, the train I took from London to Edinburgh took FOREVER to get there - this would have been so much better! Although it was much easier to see a lot of the countryside we passed through...hmm. A tradeoff, I guess...

An amazing speed! You have to wonder what the result would be if there was a rail accident at that speed. We have plenty or rail accidents here so that would be something to consider. It is a very interesting shape. Impressive shot!

well first let me thank you sig and yes i love trains :o)..the virgin pendolino trains class 220 are much smoother and are electric although still only travel at the same speed at times close to 125 .the east coast mainline which is what you came on to london is mostly electric now aswell .the latest versions of this train are diesel/electric engines .thanks for the dedi sig and what a cracking shot this is :o) mick made a mistake and deleted comment and reposted this comment :o)

Well Sig, I travelled on this to York and I'd booked a seat but someone objectionable sat in it before I found it so I had to stand all the way! As you say it was a smooth ride, but an Eastern family had bought a large bucket of fried chicken and as they ate it they spread the bones and skin over the carpet which was still spanking new.

LOL, yep the old 125 is a fast beast Sig, but the new ones are better, I used to use this platform to travel from London to Derbyshire, was a fantastic ride...Nice POV to this one my friend!

This just goes to show how complacent we can become, I would not have given this a second glance, much less photograph it. To me it is just another train, yet if it was a steam train I would be all over it with the camera. A great pov for this shot Sig, looking at the clock you still had twenty minutes to wait to start your journey. Excellent capture and a wonderful dedication for Mick. Bravo!!!!!

I like this capture because I recognise the train Sig, funny how we sometimes don't take much notice of things we see very often. I don't get to travel overseas that much but I'm going to make sure I will get a shot of trains in other countries whenever I can in future. I did once travel from Luxor to Cairo over night, it travelled slow and took 9 hours but was more modern than some trains in britain. no picture though!
