Description

British Railway's Intercity 125 is waiting at King's Cross Station, London, to depart for Edinburgh, Scotland. This is the first time that I had travelled on a fast train like this. The 125 is the world's fastest DIESEL powered train. I was exited about this trip and was going to varify the speed by checking mile markers against elapsed time, which I usually did on trains between Berlin and Amsterdam. However, this train was travelling so fast that I never saw the mile markers and became dizzy. So I just settled back and clocked the arrival and departure times at the four scheduled intermediate stops and the arrival at Weaverley Station, Edinburgh. Distance ~400 miles. The train departed on time and arrived on time. A great ride, very smooth and enjoyable. This picture was taken on 3 October 1988 and later scanned. With the exception of a few sunsets, all my pictures are photos of opportunity, i.e. travel pictures. I usually record what I see and have no control over the conditions of what I photograph. Also, all pictures taken between 1985 and 2002 were taken with a pocket-sized Olympus which was easy to carry.
