Description

Oil platform under construction in the River Tyne, Newcastle, Great Britain. This picture was taken on 8 October 1988 and later scanned. Thank you for viewing and commenting on my recent uploads, and a special 'Thank you' to those that may have added some of them to their favorites. It is amazing to me the variety of comments these uploads generate. From bringing back fond memories to some, to stirring desires to wanting to see these places, to different observations from different people. Uploading these pictures bring back memories to me too, and I always date the uploads to keep things straight in my own mind. I am surprised how much pleasure I derive from these uploads because of the warm response by this community. Thank you all, Sig...

A sign of the times indeed Sig, the great ship yards having no work had to turn their hands to other stuff, I used to deliver to quite a few of the larger ship yards and to see most of them close down because of no orders was a sad time. Some of them did survive though by turning their hands to building the oil rigs, still nothing like it used to be. Excellent capture. Bravo!!!!!

excellent capture my friend and i agree the old film i dig up and scan takes me back to a simpler time, one with warm memories in most cases.

Nice shot. Even scanned photos look pretty good. All this work for a little oil. Now the prices are outrageous. That's progress. Aloha, nice work.

A both beautiful and painful image at the same time. For what price progress? There is no simpler place or time that we can ever return to, but plogh on under the wheels and steam of progress and the tracks we lay for future generations.

I won't comment on our addiction to oil and its consequences, but I do love the pastels in the sky here. In the long run nature won't care what we do.

Sig, for people like me who dream of taveling, of seeing wonderous things, of experiencing foreign cultures and customs but who know they will never be able to do it in reality, your photos are like traveling with your best friend through places that sing exotic songs to the heart.

What was once a Texas Tower is now worldwide. The incredible depths they operate at are as unprecedented as the storms they survive.
