Description

morning all :o) this is the next generation sig especially for you :o)..i went to northallerton train station yesterday in hope of getting some fast motion shots of these trains thundering through but could`nt get the shutter speed slow enough because of the bright day .will be going back again though ,i wont be beaten lol :o)..some info below for anyone interested ,i know jeff will be .as a point of interest this train is running back to front for some reason . thanks for looking and take care .thanks for the well wishes for june`s mum :o) mick The intercity 225 is the fastest locomotive-hauled domestic train in the united kingdom, comprising a class 91 electric loco , and nine mark 4 coaches and a dvt class 82 at the rear. The Class 91 locomotives were built by b.r.e.l at the crewe works as a spin-off from the advanced passenger train project, which was abandoned during the 1980s, whilst the coaching stock was built by gec alsthom in birmingham again borrowing heavily from the Advanced Passenger Train . The InterCity 225 entered service with british rail on the east coast mainline in 1990. The units also operate on a small section of the west coast mainline between glasgow and carstairs. In 1996, as part of the privatisation of british rail, all InterCity 225s were sold to hsbc rail, which currently leases them to national express east coast. The InterCity 225 has a theoretical top service speed of 140 mph (225 km/h); during a test run on Stoke Bank between peterborough and grantham an Intercity 225 reached 162.6 mph (261.7 km/h). However, except on high speed 1, which is equipped with cab signlling, british signalling does not normally allow trains to exceed 125mph (201) km/h, due to the impracticality of observing lineside signals at high speed.

Nice looking train! We have been on the trains in California, and Europe. Of course, Europe has us beat. I enjoy the train museums that we have in California and Nevada. Try to get MrsLubner to go to the train museum in Old Town, Sacramento and get some shots. ;o)

WoW! Thank you Mick, I appreciate this. I love the look of this train and thanks for all the background info. I guess it is time to come over there again and take a ride on this new generation train. I wish we had something like this here in the US,I mean cross-country. Apparently there is some pretty good rail service between Boston and Washington, D.C. but in Phoenix that prides itsels on a population of nearly 2 million (with all the surrounding cities) we either have to drive to Casa Grande or Flagstaff to catch a train. If we had rail service like you have in Europe I would hang up flying across the US in a heartbeat. Thanks Mick, Sig...

Gorgeous explanation Thanks ;-) REeally Cool electric train...we dont have electric train in canada, but we have one of the biggest Electric power station large as the UK :)) The project covers an area of the size of the United Kingdom and is one of the largest hydroelectric systems in the world. The project has cost upwards of 20 billion US dollars to build and has an installed generating capacity of 16,000 megawatts, three times more than all of the power stations at Niagara Falls, eight times the power of Hoover Dam, and over twice the power of all eight CANDU units at the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station, the largest in North America. The final phase of the James Bay project is referred to as James Bay 2 or the Great Whale hydroelectric project. It was to begin in March 1989, but Quebec's energy surplus at the time and public concerns over the ecological impacts, stalled construction on the Great Whale and the Nottaway–Broadback–Rupert complexes. James Bay 2 would have affected watersheds with an area the size of France, and created reservoirs the size of Lake Erie. In November 1994, a panel of federal, provincial and Aboriginal representatives ordered Hydro-Québec to rework an environmental study it had prepared for the project. The next day, the Government of Quebec announced construction would be put on hold indefinitely. The deregulation of energy markets and a growing appetite for electricity among North American consumers and businesses may someday re-awaken interest in additional James Bay hydroelectric power. Higher world energy prices and growing concerns about using more hydrocarbon fuels are factors favouring the project. The environmental implication of flooding more large areas of northern Quebec is an argument against it. The clash of these issues may determine the feasibility of further developing the James Bay complex. HYDRO POWER VIDEO

Lol at Mrs. Lubner! "We, as a nation, do not seem to learn much from anyone else or even from our own mistakes! But ya gotta love us...we do provide entertainment. LOL" She said that very well!!!
