Description

and here's the finished version. the most frustrating part was the flowered jewelry. as Rutra noted, they didn't seem to cast shadows. i say seem because they were set to cast shadows, the lights were set to have shadows, and nothing i did gave them more visible shadows. with the hair, the big thing i needed was the basic form for light and shadows. again, lilith by rebelmommy. edited to add: the lack of shadows in places was a Poser/Firefly error. notice the shadow from her nose. i painted most of the shadows from the jewelry in, and if you look at at the original, you can see exactly where the shadows just disappear. i had the same problem in another picture with a chain (a whole segment of shadow just wasn't there), and that had pretty much no ambient light whatsoever. i'm very careful with my shadow cameras, and i've this is another incentive to _try_ to give up on depth mapped shadows now. oh, and there were limits to what i could do with AO and have it work well everywhere. this was deliberately very ambiently lit. sorry if you don't like that style. something with more shadows would have been less ethereal, more grounded, darker in feel as well as color, and (incidently) less realistic. i've been working with gamma corrected materials lately, which create much more evenly lit scenes.

She does have a magical/hypnotizing beauty. Perhaps nobody real has such smooth skin and such a glow, but she is a fantasy creature isnt she? I like the color of her skin better here as well as the color and fullness of her hair. The bit above her left ear still looks a bit strange. She isnt bald anymore, but the sweep back isnt defined well, and it extends too much. She evokes a feeling of enchantment and in that respect it's a great success no matter what.

I see some shaddows cast by the flowers... if you want better shaddows, you're gonna have to make the picture darker in lites - it's a few steps from a white wash. Looks good... out of the two uploads, I don't remember the hair like that above the left ear, I'll have to check - is membory playing a trick on me or did you change it?

I agree with the previous comment regarding lighting. It seems to me there are two powerful lights pointing her face with practically the same values; since they come from opposite sides there´s a little chance for objects to cast shadows. Now, it´s a very enchanting image anyway. Very nice to look at.

Much better indeed, -though it started from a very strong base to begin with. I very much like your art, cobaltdream, and hope that you will be giving us much more in the yeaars to come! David P. Hoadley

I think you did a good job, despite the shadow problem. She's a cute character.

All problems from the original are fixed and this looks very good. I really like her face morph and the perfect fit of her expression. She seems so pure and innocent. The flowers are perfect to further enhance that feeling. THis is a very fine job. Regarding all your problems with lighting in Poser, for a Vue'er like me that sounds really strange and unnecessarily complex. Lighting and shadows in Vue are a pleasure to play with. You really should try Vue, you'd love it.
