Description

We came around the corner, saw this, and said O my God,... a moat... a real honest-to-God English moat! This is a sideview of the gatehouse to the Bishop's Palace, located in the city of Wells, Somerset, England and is situated next to Wells Cathedral. It has been the home of the Bishop of the Diocese of Bath for 800 years. It was built around 1230 A.D., covers an area of 14 acres and is surrounded by a moat that dates back to 1340 A.D. The current bishop still resides in some of the buildings, but the the ruins of the Great Hall and the garden grounds are now open to the public. We were delighted as schoolgirls and we rain along the parapet from one turret to the other. This is the same image taken from the exact same spot that Mrs. Ratbag posted about a week ago. Thanks very much for looking and for your kind comments.

My husband's always wanted his own moat with draw bridge lol. I'll have to show him this wonderful image you've taken of this one. Love the wonderful branches framing the upper half.
