Description

This was taken at the Mount Goliath Nature area along the road to the Summit of Mount Evans. This forest is right below tree line at about 11,000 ft. Some of the trees in this forest are over 1600 years old. These trees have lasted through centuries of strong winds, harsh winters and and the tortures of sunlight at high altitude. These Bristlecone Pines grow at such a slow rate, that the rings in the trees are so tight that the tree can naturally repel insects.

This picture is awesome. I'm not really into science fiction, but somehow the tree on the left seems to have eyes, while the one in the background looks stone dead (no pun intended), like after a battle. If this pic were the cover of a sci-fi paperback, I'd buy it. I have never seen a landscape as stunning as this!

Tried to but never made it to Mount Evans. The road got too steep for my taste. Wished I had though than I'd had seen these trees with my own eyes. Thank you for sharing them.
