Description

This is my first attempt at modeling a car. It's based on a tutorial, so I can't take credit for its design. The technique used in modeling it involved first sculpting the base shape, and then "drawing" polygons over the base shape and bridging the polygons together. From there you fine tune the mesh to get the hard edges in appropriate places, etc. It's one of the better techniques I've come across. Thankfully, Modo has tools that make the process even easier. Before this project, I would've never used the word "easier" when referring to modeling a car. But with Modo, it was more fun then work.

Very sharp looking model. I've never seen Modo, but it looks like you've gotten the hang of it. Nice work.

First off, I've got to agree with you that using Modo is fun :) I also think you've done a great job on the modelling and texturing, but you do express a preference for both critical and non-critical comments, so I'm going to offer a couple of critical ones as well :) I bought this tutorial primarily for the information on compositing a model into a photographic background. Because I'm nowhere near being a modeller at this time, I tried incorporating some Poser models, specifically the Sedan model available at DAZ. The biggest problem I found with this was getting the right perspective, an issue that Andy does not cover in the tutorial. (I'll summon up the courage to post my own attempts at this at some point... so feel free to be equally critical when I do :) ) The first criticism is really directed at Andy's background image, in that the horizon line is not horizontal ( too much beer perhaps ? :) ) My second comment is that both your car and Andy's look foreshortened and rather low to the ground... at least to me. I spent quite a lot of time playing with this issue and ended up using some camera parameters that were not intuitive, but ultimately felt were a product of Modo's camera projection method for the background image .... I guess this is going to force me to post my own attempts to deal with this issue :) Hopefully no one feels I'm being overly critical of either your work or Andy's Tutorials. The availability of Andy's tutorials in particular are, in my opinion, one of the best things about learning how to use Modo.

Hey! don't be so modest saying "I can't take credit for it's..." I've followed many a tutorial and fell flat on my face, probably because I'm sometimes a numptie. But this for me is nothing short of astounding! You've really come up with the goods, so much so, that now i'm considering buying modo. Inspirational or what!!
