Description

After having been hammered in the battle of Coral Sea, USS Yorktown CV-5 was staged into dry dock #1 at Pearl Harbor on May 27, 1942. The dock workers pulled off an amazing “quick fix” of the carrier and made it available by May 30 for the battle of Midway as part of Task Force 17. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. doctor'n at the dock... cool.... You aught to do one like this in the future where it shows a ship has been bombarded repeatedly and you wonder how it made it into the dock.... maybe still smoke'n and the crew jumping to the dock for safety... I know you're into these ship shots, so I thought I'd throw an idea at ya.

Yes, I recall that story. At Midway, the Japanese were amazed that the ship was actually battleready. However, as I recall, the Yorktown was almost destroyed in that battle.

Thanks for the comments DramaKing, the Yorktown damage is not visable from this angle of view. She took a single bomb hit on the flight deck that exploded in the hangar. Flight decks on carriers were tha favourite target of aircraft in WWII. CV-2 Lexington was the ship that was so badly damaged she had to be scuttled at The Battle of Coral Sea.
