Well haven’t posted or commented for a while as busy with study for my uni degree. This will be my second freebie object for the community once I have completed the design. I must admit that I am starting to enjoy using Wings 3D as a design tool. As part of plotting of my SciFi novel which I am writing in my spare time (what little that is after study, work and family), I am coming up with ship and weapon designs. This is one of the combat craft I hope to use in the story. The concept design is for a small space based unmanned combat and reconnaissance vehicle that can be launched and recovered from normal frigates and cruisers as a low end space fighter. The name is Toad class Unmanned Space Combat Vehicle (USCV). The Toad is used by the Imperial Federation of Enlightened Systems’s navy as a means of providing a cost effective tool for patrol vessels rather than requiring a dedicated carrier. It is not intended for atmospheric operations. Hence aerodynamic streamlining is not important nor is shielding for entering an atmosphere. The Toad is armed with four medium laser cannon turrets and four short range missiles. It is powered by two ion engines with sublight speed performance only. It is a short range craft. The craft would be able to destroy opposing interceptors and bombers and cripple commercial freighters but would largely be ineffective against military space vessels like opposing frigates and cruisers yet alone capital ships to which it would be like a gnat to an elephant. The craft has been designed in Wings 3D and rendered in Vue 6 Pro Studio. Just now have to figure out how to UV map it and create a decent texture map. Once I get that done, then will post in Free Stuff as 3DS, OBJ and VOB. Let me know what you think of the design and concept.
