Description
Captured back on 10/30/06 at the Wings, Wheels, Rotors and Expo show held annually at the beautiful Joint Forces Training Base on the beautiful Los Alamitos Army Airfield in beautiful Los Alamitos, California.
This is a different P-51 than the one posted yesterday.
The bottom photo shows three of the Mustang's six .50 caliber (12.7mm) Browning machine guns on the leading edge of the starboard wing, although the inner gun looks suspiciously like a cannon.
For highly detailed information about the aircraft, check out yesterday's P-51 Mustang posting.
Also, the Ford Mustang automobile adopted its name from this plane.
Thanks for coming by, and have a top notch Tuesday.

Wonderful images, my friend. The closeup of the wing with the weaponry is especially well done. A nice collection!

The days of the props.....excellent shot. Aloha

Great shot of a D model I don't believe they were equipped with cannons. It looks like the .50 is not installed in that position. If you haven't check out my site. I have several '51's and other WW2 aircraft.

Great collage Harry! Stunning old birds with loads of history! :)

It's from before my time. No pixie dust falls on me from such a plane. I'll just mosey over to the jets. Even then I have no place near the F-86. Where I would have had my first friends would be a privately owned F-105 "Thunderchief". I'll just have to go meet the J-75 engineers on my own. This is wonderful. But I need my own space.

The inbd gun is staggered back about 7 inches. BONUS ANSWER The reason for the dorsal fin extension (top photo far right) was due to (1st) the switch from a three blade prop (on allison engine) to a four blade (Rolls Royce) and (2nd) a taller ,much less streamlined canopy than the old fastback (turbulence). :D

Lovely collages you have posted, Harry. We went to an air show once, and it was a lot fun. More of a guy thing, but I still enjoyed it. Nice details of these historic 'avians'. :)

I love the three POVs, giving us a great overall view of this mighty machine with it's fabulous weapons. I wonder if I could get some of those added to my wing mirrors on my car - only for use in rush-hour traffic??? LOL!. Great shots Harry. Hugs xx
