Description

This image is for Mark and Harry who have both been feeling under the weather. Even if they are better by now I hope this cheers them! This is a single blossom from the only rose I own. It is a bush that was passed down from my husband's grandmother. If memory serves - the original bush was in Gramma's flowerbed in the 1970's. Everyone loves the smell of these roses. The fragrance is VERY intense. I've not found another rose to match the aroma. However, on the flip side, the thorns aren't just a few long barbs here and there, but rather the entire branch is literally coated with hundreds of small, sharp and spiny thorns. I suppose that is why the bush is still around and indestructible after all these years! Wouldn't it be great if we could acquire some of the resilient qualities of this rose - beauty, longevity and natural armor! Thanks so much for stopping by. AND - thanks to GBCalls who gave me the correct name of the flowers in my previous upload. They weren't Daisies, but Asters. :-) Jodie Please visit my personal website...

Oh Jodie, this is gorgeous ... I love how you gave it such a painterly look. (the postwork freak that I am!) I see how this rose is very special to you; coming from Grandma's garden. :)

I'm glad GBcalls said aster. see http://www.peoplespharmacy.com/archives/herb_library/feverfew.asp I am a big fan of feverfew as it is a very natural and easy to grow home remedy. :-) Now this rose is absolutely befitting of a grandmother. Soft, gentle and nurturing. Stunning macro capture and presentation.

oh thank you, Jodie, a wonderful spirit & body lifter! It's not just the painterly feel that tizjezzme points out (you really did capture a paint-stroke feel), it's the luminous pink shadows. They show up in the zoom version: They're just luminous! It's as if its hidden regions are deeply alive. (This is an inward rose!) Also you caught little dabs of amber that make it look like there's another world hidden inside. Maybe they're from your grandmother, a kind of silent signature...Another gorgeous capture, and everyone should see the zoom version because the pinks & whites are so much more intense. They're beautiful. Great thanks, dear friend. You made my day...

Excellent and beautiful image. I had to get rid of a rose such as this with all the thorns, my skin is paper thin after years of exposure to the sun, smoking and steroids for my lungs (Poor old bat, ah!!) The new ones don't seem so vicious!

Beautiful capture Jodie! What a special treasure this rose is with all that history/heritage. Most roses nowadays are bred for beauty and not smell. So glad these sweet smelling beauties are still around.

Splendiferous macro of this lovely pink rose, Jodie, just emanating elegance and softness from its very core! I like the wayward petals. And thank you for the heartfelt dedication to both Mark and myself. I'm still hanging in there, despite feeling like something the cat dragged in.
