Description
This piece is representative of the Amarna period of Egypt (ca. 1352-36 B.C.).
Amarna art is unique for its more realistic depiction of subjects, instead of the strict formalism that reigned in Egyptian art up until this period in history. This style of art broke with a number of important long-established Egyptian conventions. These included intimate portrayals of affection within the royal family and the abandonment of portraying women as lighter coloured than men. The art also has a realism that sometimes borders on caricature.
About this shot. It shows Bahk and Tahiri (he was an advisor to the pharaoh). As is typical of Amarna pieces, it depicts characters in a more life-like manner; note the circular and triangular forms used in sculpting their faces and bodies (especially Bahk's big belly!).

....an das kann ich mich leider auch nicht erinnern. Aber wir durften seinerzeit nur in "ausgewählte" Räume! Es ist schön, dass ich das jetzt zu sehen bekomme. Wunderbares Foto!
