Description

A must see. The Berlin Egyptian Museum has the world's best and most complete collection of Amarna-style art. Photography allowed, but no flashes. They have a weird rule about not taking bags into the museum either (backpacks, etc.). For more information, read the info accompanying the two photos surrounding this one.

Beautiful! BTW, the rule about the backpacks extends from security precautions (explosives, etc). Just the world in which we now live.

I doubt it was an explosives thing. My "backpack" was one of those mini ones that merely holds a camera and some accessories. Women often wear the same thing in lieu of a handbag; and in fact, women were entering with far larger bags, much larger than what I had. the guard finally relented when I pointed this out, but he made me carry the bag (not throw it over by back) because I might "inadvertently back into something, or bump into something." I just complied, held the little backpack in my hand, and then went off to take the pictures for which I had come.

I am intrigued by Egyptology but never seem to get enough time to really get into it. If you are interested, I could recommend a work of fiction but with a lot of research done by the (South African) author on the topic. It is a fascinating and easy read and is called "The River Nile" by Wilbur Smith!!! :)

Weird rules ok! I took a party of adults to the National Gallery in London, and the eldest was so excited by the earliest piece in there that she was waving her arms round and gesticulating to the rest of us to come and look. She nearly got arrested, and I had to threaten her with turning her jacket inside out and zipping it up, making a straitjacket! ( which I used to do with my son).
