Description
....looks to be a delightful way to spend a summer afternoon, relaxing in the shade amongst the "daisies".
Thank you for your comments on yesterday's image. I'm feeling a bit better today.
For those of you who were asking in your comments, a chigger is not a mosquito or midge, or a flying insect at all.
It is a mite.
You can google 'harvest mite' or 'chigger' and click on the images tab to see the damage they do.
They are so small, they cannot be seen by the naked eye, .4mm or 1/150th of an inch long. The saliva from their bites causes large red welts that don't begin to itch for four to eight hours. And the itch is maddening, intense, and relentless for the first two or three days. They go in all the most discreet places where your clothing is restrictive and tight, such as around your shoes, behind the knees, all around your underwear, in the crotch area, around your waistband, around the bra area, and under your armpits. Even got some on my neck under the camera strap. Did not have bug spray on that day, so it was bound to happen. And contrary to popular myth, painting them all with clear nail polish to 'suffocate' them does not work, as by that time, they are already gone. Thank God for "Chiggerex" ointment. :)
Thanks for looking and thanks also for your kind comments and faves on my recent postings.

I had never heard of chiggers before Maria, I had a good read about them after reading your post yesterday though, they look to be quite a nasty little critter. Some of the images looked really angry, red and sore, hope you get some relief soon. Don't you just love big cats, I could lay down with this one, a lazy sunny afternoon laid in the sun relaxing. I might wake up missing an arm and a leg though, so I will dream about it instead. Superb capture, exeleent clarity and detail. Bravo!!!!!

I was always told the drying affect of the nailpolish helped pull the poison out and calm the itching faster. :-) Perhaps that's all psychological then but it worked for me when I only had a few. We don't have them in Northern California, thank heavens! this is a stately shot. Very regally done.

Oh my he is gorgeous and what an expression. I forgot about chiggers, when I was younger back in Kansas we would get into them all the time. So sorry to hear about your experience with them.
