Description

This is the Parish Hall or Salle Paroissiale which is at the centre of parish administration, i.e licences for your dog, gun, business, driving licence and so on as well as general administration. It is also the base for the Honorary Police system which is run in conjunction with the States of Jersey Police Force. The Honorary Police system is a very indepth and much disussed part of Island life. Le Connetable heads the Parish, of which there are 12 in Jersey. St Lawrence is just one of them and is based in the centre of the Island. Le Connetable also sits in the parliament of the Island known as the States of Jersey, we have an independent government here with no party politics (so they say!). We have our own money, and still use the £1 note, very unlike the UK mainland. We cannot however spend our money in the Uk and have to change it for English money. I took this photo yesterday whilst dodging traffic in the aid of my new passion, RR. My poor 80 year old mother sat in the car whilst I got out for the umpteenth time to take a photograph during our drive. She does get a cup of coffee out of our adventure on a Saturday, so please do not report me to Age Concern lol. I could waffle for hours but will save you on this relaxing Sunday.
