Description

Captured 7/5/08, around 7:15 AM, exactly .38 miles/.612 kilometers from my hackneyed habitat. This beauty was on a plant adjoining the one posted yesterday. If you think the bloom displayed yesterday was massive, this one came in at 15-inches/38.1cms horizontally, from petal tip to petal tip. And its carpel/middle/pistil measured a whopping 8-inches/20.32cms across. The Mother of all sunflowers! A leviathan among blooms! Although you might figure otherwise, the carpel/middle/pistil on this one isn't as spectacular and variegated as yesterday's, but that's the way it goes in the capricious world of nature. I didn't clone out the big petal at the bottom lest I make a mess of things. Better viewed full size. Thankx for the visit, and have a totally tickety-boo Tuesday.

Long Beach has something besides twisted junipers and arbor vitae and I don't mean cypress.

This is absolutely awesome, Harry! Your sharp details and that great lighting show this one off to perfection! (Do they feed steroids to the sunflowers in your neighbourhood? LOL)

look good with the green petal. The flower do not jump at you as the green petal keeps it in check

This is huge. Love the petals like a sun in full blast. Wonderful happy yellow color. I don't mind a leaf there it is part of the plant so why not leave it there. Good one Harry.

Intense therapy for the soul in the color Harry. Soliflora Giganticus at its best. Well captured.

I love sunflowers; I planted a bunch of them in my garden this year; they have yet to bloom yet ... so far they only stand about 4 feet high, at most. Once they are in full bloom I'll show you mine :)
