Description

My youngest and I were about to go canoing in the dark when I found this Luna moth in the water and brought him to land, where he quickly regained his composure and made a beeline for my daughter. :-) The weather was calm and the lake was smooth as glass. Of course we had our life jackets on the whole time. The water is warm enough now that hypothermia was not an issue if we did fall in and the lake we were on is relatively narrow (but long) compared to some of the others in the area. We paddled a couple of miles and the fire flies were twinkling like Christmas tree lights on both sides of the lake for as far as the eye could see. The bull frogs were making their croaking sounds and once we heard a strange animal sound coming from the bush that I've never heard before. We were about 5 miles from town and I don't mind admitting that the few times I have been out there at night by myself, the shadows & sounds got a little bit under my skin. On somewhat of a different note, anyone else see the resemblance between Luna moths & ferries? I wonder if this wasn't where the myth of faeries originated? Thanks for your time. Bless you all!

Great rescue! And can a moth make a "beeline"? or is it a mothline? Whatever, another great capture, and I would easily believe the moth/fairy link myself!

Looks like he might be doing the butterfly stroke.. Sorry couldn't resist lol. Glad he was saved and sounds like you enjoyed your canoe trip. It must be something to see all those fireflies on the lake.

It took me some time to analyze the "abstract" and isolate the Luna moth. Fantastic resemblance to a faerie!
