Description

This palm tree has something rather interesting about it. I suppose I could tease you and keep you guessing as to just what that is, but I won't. What I find interesting are the two fir trees you see in the background. This wasn't taken on some exotic tropical isle, it was right down my street and firs and palms are kind of like the odd couple!! Oh, and I say "was" because about a month after I took this foto, they cut it down, I have no idea why.

Pines and Palms must not be compatible...in someons's eyes...

Mmm... I don't see any power lines. Often that is why a palm tree comes down. I could speculate as to why, but I won't. Speculation is just that, it holds no truths, thus I wish not to bathe in it at moment. Gone it is, and the beauty in this capture is it demonstrates the power of perception. Perception, gives and take away, it creates and destroys. It can view beauty in nothing and ugliness in everything. The choice in the direction it takes is in the beliefs of the beholder. Thank you for sharing today my friend, another favorite of mine. At moment, there is fascinating, heat-lightening going on right outside my window, if I had a nice camera that might be able to capture a decent picture, to share. Yet, I do not, maybe some day. Thank you Marilyn for sharing.

I can only speculate too. Interesting facts though and I never thought about it until now. I was wondering as to the species of the palm: Lala palm?

I bought a baby palm like this in the garden centre some years ago, and it grew very fast and had EXTREMELY sharp rippy bits that kept on attacking me. I got so fed up with repeated assaults on my arms that I set fire to it!

You gotta love Andrea, huh? Wonderful shot of this erstwhile palm tree! They don't get this big up here - people plant "hearty" varieties and they die quite quickly.

That is kind of an interesting combo, Marilyn; although I was surprised to see palm trees on the west coast of Scotland, too. Apparently they aren't quite as tropical as you might expect! Well seen, nice work!

What a shame that it has been cut down, at least you have a photographic record that it was there once upon a time. We don't have them around my area of the Uk Marilyn, not that I know of anyhow, but down where Andrea lives they grow along the sea front. Excellent capture of this one Marilyn, it looks to be thinner as the trunk goes down, could it be that it was top heavy? Superb work. Bravo!!!!!

durleybeachbum should have took some photos of the tree burning lol. anyway this is a good shot. palm trees is the only trees that is alive thought and thought. cool shot. some of the leaves is turning brown maybe the reason why they cut it down

It was cut down either because it offered competition to the palm trees I upload on RR every so often, or perhaps it was considered an anomaly up in that part of the state and couldn't be tolerated. In other words, it was an "outlander." Apparently another example of xenophobia. Andrea reacted like the typical witch-hunter of old, and/or a Transylvanian townsfolk armed with a pitchfork and torch besieging the castle of Doctor Frankenstein and/or Count Dracula. In any event, fine POV, clarity and lighting effects in this shot, Marilyn.

Perhaps it was diseased since there seems to be a lot of brown, dead fronds on it...or is that the sunlight shining on it. If it was perfectly healthy, they should have let it alone.
