A recurring character from the City of Splendors, a Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms campaign set in Waterdeep. ““Do you really believe he holds you in any regard?” Alak asked, openly amused at her distress. “After all, he sent you to me to…” “He sent me to persuade you to his cause,” Kethra retorted. “A task he would not entrust to any other.” “Except for woman he left with me the night he proposed his plan,” he said flippantly. “What woman?” she demanded, the surprise clear on her face. “I do not recall her name,” he replied, laughing at her naiveté. “She was not very memorable.” Alak stared into her eyes, which brimmed with tears. “Did you think you held a special place in his heart?” he asked with cruel humor. “There is no room in his heart for any but himself! He is rather drow in that respect.” Kethra could barely contain herself, she wanted nothing more than to flee into the night and drown in her tears. Then she steeled herself. “Will you swear yourself to his endeavor?” she asked coldly, as she undid the ties of her bodice…” A son of the most powerful drow family in Skullport, Alak is little more then a servant in his own house. A mere male, he holds no authority, but is seldom even noticed by the house’s matrons, allowing him almost complete freedom. Secretly venerating Vhaeraun, he has built a network of other male drow with in house Tanor’Thal that spy on the matrons’ activities and take advantage for their own purposes when ever they can. Unlike most drow, Alak enjoys the surface world, delighting in the freedom of Waterdeep, and is particularly fascinated by human women. Enticed into Randal Amcathra’s plan to undermine his own noble family, Alak used his network of male drow to smuggle small quantities of a valuable drow alloy into Waterdeep, which would have provided the weapons made with it with magical properties. But his price was high, costing Randal the devotion of Kethra Ravenwood, and the plot failed due to the intervention Tel Teukiira (Moonstar) agents. Alak’s activates also drew the attention of an ambitious young priestess of Lolth, Nystra Tanor’Thal, who has now taken command of his network of male drow through him to serve her own ends. Another of the recurring (non-player) characters from the City of Splendors I didn't get around to in the orignal pass. Thanks for looking... Hope you enjoy!
