Description

Hello again! Back in Riehmers Backyards, one of the finest backyards in Berlin. This pic above shows some of these fine gardens here inside and the houses inside.... The traffic`s noise level is outside, and you can hear the birds singing.... Why constructed Riehmer his project here? To answer this question we must know something about his clientel: Riehmer constructed his house complex especially for military personel. He had a very good nose for his business: On the other side of the big alley, the Yorck street, was the preussian ulan barrack situated, and Riehmer built his houses for their officers. To reach their workingplace, they only had to cross the street. (The barrack exists till today, it is now part of the finance authorities...) So the most of Riehmers flats were owned by officers, the others by rich traders and businessmen from the near surrounding. This was a very quickly upgrowing neighbourhood with fine houses and very large streets, and Riehmer was there at the right time at the right place.... Please notice: In 1871, after the war against France, the Kingdom of Preussen transformed itself to the German Empire, and in these early days of the german emperors the military personel had the highest honour. The uniform counted more then money... And Riehmer, only a bricklayer, was clever enough to serve this special clientel and earned a lot of money..... (to be continued) Dear friends, I hope you enjoy these series, it is fun to create it. Thanks for your interest and your time wastin`here... Comments are always wellcome. Bye till tomorrow and have a good day! Billyboy

I have to agree with all the above Wolfgang, a wonderful series so far, and I am enjoying it very much. I like this showing how everybody got a share at the gardens, the bottom flats open up and the other floors have these wonderful private balconies. I think Riehmers would still be proud of his buildings as even now they are clean and tidy and a credit to thoses that still live there. I wonder how many of the present occupiers are descendent from those original Prussian Officers? You can tell they were built for the "Upper" class, just by looking at them. I certainly admire this man Riehmer, he had a dream, he persued it, and it came to fruition and made him rich, a very astute man I think. A self made man! Excellent work, and fantastic narrative, this is what I enjoy, reading about the image is a great part of the image itself and should not be ignored. Bravo!!!!!!
