I've been doing CG since "Bryce 3D" first came out - I guess that's at least a dozen years ago. I stopped for awhile because my desk job consumed my every waking moment. During that time I lost my software and could no longer find Bryce on-line. I played with Terragen in the meantime, but it just wasn't the same.  I finally got Version 6 and have been catching up on all the new features.

I like your Ring World. I keep trying to build one of my own. It never seems to look right. Ether the scale is off or the atmosphere doesn't look right. Your Monorail is a nice touch.

Neat picture! It reminds me of the Orbitals in Ian Banks' Culture novels. Here's the Wikipedia entry that has more information about Orbitals: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orbital_(The_Culture) I'm reading Ian Banks' book Player of Games right now in fact.

I think you've pulled it off quite nicely. Good use of the planet, and a superb texture to go along with it. I like the self contained cities, especially the one in the foreground, reminds me of SinCity. Nice work indeed!

The same concept has shown up in so many places: Larry Niven's Ringworld, Iain Banks' series about the Culture, Bungie Studios' Halo game, etc. I'm sure I was influenced to a degree by these and others. It's only logical - if you can't make gravity, fake it with inertia. I know building something this big is about as far fetched as trying to terraform a planet with no magnetosphere - Mars is DOA with no pulse or respiration (check out Gilbabin's gallery for some awesome renders of a terraformed Mars). But, dreaming of the impossible is what sparks our innovations. Humanity has spent the last century turning science fiction into fact.

Awesome creativity you have presented in this render. Kudos to you on this interpretation.
