Description

For Theseus88bc's original paperback image, check out image_id=1709565. Iain's incredibly clever and well-crafted pastiches of vintage paperbacks and pulps struck a chord with me. I mulled over his cover for three days, then Tuesday afternoon at 4 pm I started painting. I used the 1971 Bantam cover by Paul Lehr for John Boyd's THE RAKEHELLS OF HEAVEN as further inspiration and format. By 7:30 most of the artwork was done. An hour on the computer devised the typography. This morning I spent an hour or so finishing the oil work, then photographed the result, transfered it to the computer, completed a few touch-ups, and finally merged artwork and typography.
