Description

I took this image in Soweto in Vilakazi Street, right opposite the house where Nelson Mandela grew up. It is a very popular tourist spot and there are a couple of informal traders who sell their art to the busloads of tourists visiting Mr Mandela's house. These traditional clay dishes are painstakingly hand painted by the traders/artists. The colors are truly magnificent and these folks are so talented. They usually have a very wide array of goods (all hand made) which they sell at the tourist hotspots!! Thank you for popping in and for your very valued comments on this image as well as my previous uploads. Hugs, Carin xx

These painting are painstakingly done and they are good value for money too. What better way to remember Africa than from having these objects.

I have collected African/Primitive art since I was in high school. Nothing like this but small trinkets and hokey things I find in garage sales. These are so lovely. I wonder how many people stop to think about what it takes to hand paint each one. Fabulous shot.

Slipdishes? What is that? Plates that fall on the floor? I see nothing but bowls in this image. Stellar POV, sharp clarity, colors, detail and lighting effects in this fantastic capture, Carin!

What a marvellous display! You've captured history and beauty in a most talented and special way! These pieces are beautiful, and to think about the orgin/history of when, who and how they were made (by) makes them even more delicate and lovely. Incredible lighting my friend!
