Born the daughter of a mage's servant and an Elvin Forrester, and raised by the mage who claimed to be her mother's master after her death bringing the half-blood disgrace into the world. He anointed her with a name of shame, in the old tongue it was meant to be interpreted as "Jackal's Child" or "Daughter of Jackals" -- a slur that she would carry with her later with a kind of feral pride -- Jakel Sha. When she was of an age, she challenged she slew the mage who held her a prisoner using a cursed blade she had found in his dungeons, and made her life her own. Shunned by her father's kind as a half-blood, she took to the ways of a thief in the Darkwoods of Ravenswood, she plied her skill as a cutpurse and part time thug with considerable skill and managed to eek out a respectable, if unlawful, living among the denizens of the Darkwoods of Wolfshaven and Shadowglen. Unfortunately she ran afoul of a minor noble when she tried to snatch his purse. His guards taught her a 'lesson' and dumped her, unceremoniously, on the outskirts of a dustwater town in a place known as the Dragon's Forge, a nesting place and roost for some of the most vicious dragons of Ravenswood. It turned out to be a place not even Death would frequent. She had nursed herself back to a semblance of health when she came upon a severely injured and ancient black dragon that was known to be a plague on nearby towns. What better revenge than to be bound by blood to the most fearful shadow in the skies? Through an understanding the ancient black, known as Neviathan, and Jakel, bound their life forces together and from that grew strong enough to depart the Forge and become a force to be reckoned with, even among Dragonriders. And while not officially among their number, few true Riders would dare to challenge them as a pair.
