Description
A more modern view of the LSO and the ability to land at night. Paddles aren't used anymore. There is an optical glide slope system and the LSO now has a radio in one hand and the waveoff light actuater in the other. The controlling LSO has his arm up to show he has the deck.
A wave off is started by the LSO if the aircraft is off the glide slope (to low is really bad)or airspeed or lineup, or if something or someone on the deck would cause danger to the aircraft or personnel.
In the F-4 we landed at about 137 knots or so depending on fuel weight.
