Description
Graphocephala coccinea is the name I found on the Gugguide.net website Lee directed me to. (http://bugguide.net/node/view/518)The leafhopper is about 3⁄16 of an inch (5 mm) long and has vivid blue (or green) and red (or orange-red) stripes on its wings and the top of its thorax combined with bright yellow coloration on its head, legs, abdomen, and elsewhere.
This is one more photo from the same few minutes I spent at the lily patch earlier in the week. I will have one more bug to post then will switch out to something else. Hope you enjoy the day. Thank you for any comments, they are all greatly appreciated. -GB-

I know how tiny these guys are, so I appreciate the shot even more. I have managed to get shots of about 4 or 5 different species of leaf hoppers this year and each was uniquely colored. Some looked rather bland with just my eye but after downloading them, I am amazed at the colors that often become visible. Unfortunately, not many were this good and most were much worse, lol. You got a clean crisp shot full of detail. Thanks for sharing. BTW - BugGuide.com is indeed a very good reference source for North American insects. I recommend it to anyone interested in species ID and info. Lee

these guys aren't easy to photograph; they are so tiny! In fact, the first time I took a picture of one of these, I had no idea the patterns they have! Until I brought it up on my monitor, I thought WOW... now, THIS is COOL. :) And it is :) Good job! lol
