Description
I haven't a clue as to the name of this Moth, so if anybody does know pray tell.
I stepped outside the back door earlier today and started work on fixing the outside water tap. I had just about finished and saw something fall from up above and it landed on the back step. On closer inspection this is what I found. It was still alive but very docile, I picked it up as gently as I could and placed it on a paper towel to take a few shots. It was on its back when I found it so that is where I started from. I took a few close ups and then got out the extreme macro lens for the eye shot and the wooly rug shot. I then placed it on top of my ladder in a shaded place, I will check later to see if he's woken up and gone.
It was a rush job so not perfect, just wondered if anybody could name him. I have been on several moth sites but not found one like this.
Thanks for stopping by for a look and for any comments you care to make. I have been a bit inactive for the last couple or three weeks but hope to be back full time soon.
May you all get what you wish for weather wise, we are having some wonderful sunshine just now.
Feel free to ZOOM this is a large file.

Excellent collage, my friend! :)

It's a Cookies-n-Cream moth, you can tell by the speckles.... and you wouldn't want to anger that one or it will come after you with that ginormous probiscis...Nice captures, and good job rescuing it!

What ever it is Jeff the detail to the shots are very impressive. I viewed full size and I didn't know that they had forked tongues, and to say it was a rush job lol you won't get a much better macro than that on the top right. Great stuff, hope you find a name for it.

I had about decided to send you an e-mail and find out if all was ok. I had not seen any image postings from you in a while. Then you commented on one of mine and I was reassured. This is a great series. Sorry I cannot help you with an ID but it is a fine looking critter. The design and paint job look like nature's version of a stealth bomber. I had no idea that some moths had forked tongues. Your full size shot really shows that detail clearly, as well as eye facets and everything else, lol. I have never been able to get more than just a hint of bug eye-facets in any of my images. I hope you get an ID. I bet durleybeachbum will be successful. Well captured shots. BTW - I am always hopeful but many moths only live a few days. We are bound to encounter some of them at the end of their time. Thanks for sharing. Lee
