Description

Nikon 7900 pocket camera images - hand held images. I thought I would add a little zest to this weeks theme - NAME ME IF YOU CAN. I find critters that are new to me quite often. Sometimes I get no shot, sometimes I get a so-so shot, rarely I get a good shot. The images I will post this week are mostly so-so shots, but they are of some pretty cool critters, lol. I have managed to ID all of them by using my favorite source - BugGuide.com. It is a free Insect data base that helps ID insects of North America. It is basically a set up like RR except everyone who visits the site has an interest in insects, lol. Many of them are real "Experts" or at least very dedicated amateurs. All except the last of this images are of critters I was seeing for the very first time. Hopefully I will get other chances and better results. By the Way - the "zesty" part of the theme is that I will identify each critter on the next day after they are posted. Maybe this will add a bit of excitement to offset the less than "stellar" images, lol. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

Interesting, odd bug :) I haven't a clue... So here is a wild guess... A moth of some sort?

I think you should call him Igor - like the Igor´s in Terry Pratchetts Discworld novels. Great shot, my friend.

I haven't a clue as to its name Lee, but it is a fantastic shot, especially the side on one. You under sell yourself, I actually thought the same as you about my moth upload, first thing I thought of was a stealth bomber. Alas the moth didn't make it, I have it in front of me now in a petre dish. Its wind span is 47mm. I have sent a photo to a british moth group, will let you know if I find out. From the colouring of this one I would guess at some sort of wasp, but thats all it is a wild guess. Excellent work. Bravo!!!!!

I'm gonna just on out there and make a guess that its a species of leafhopper and that's the best you'll get out of me. :-) Very unusual and fun to guess at! And, Lee, I don't know of any of your shots that would, in my mind, be less than stellar!

The best I can say is that it's an ugly critter that you have made to look fascinating & beautiful. Maybe it's a "conundrum bug". JDoc
