Description

Nikon 7900 pocket camera - hand held images. Yesterday's critter was a Bark Louse "Cerastipsocus venosus". Bark lice feed on lichens and fungi on tree bark. Book lice (same ORDER) are best known for feeding on the starch in book bindings. These critters are typically 1.5-5 mm long, rarely smaller than 1 mm and up to 10 mm. They are one of the more conspicuous species in the Eastern U.S. Todays critter was eating aphids and is an immature specimen. The adult will look nothing like this. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. lee

Well I'm going to guess that this is the larva of some sort of hoverfly. Excellent bird-poo disguise!

I wasn't even close... lol. The one today looks a bit, er, gooey... (for lack of a better adjective). I'm gonna guess lady bug larva.

I'm going to stick my neck out and guess at a Swallowtail caterpillar, most probably miles from it but thats what I'm going with. Not the prettiest in the bunch though Lee. Excellent capture. Bravo!!!!!
