Description

Probably the most photographed castle in Scotland. The first fortified castle here was built in the mid 13th century guarding the lands of Kintail. Since then at least four different versions of the castle have been built and rebuilt as the feudal history of Scotland unfolded through the centuries. Partially destroyed by a Jacobite uprising in 1719 Eilean Donan lay in ruins for the best part of 200 years until lieutenant Colonel John MacRea-Gilstrap bought the island in 1911 and proceeded to restore the castle to its former glory. After 20years of toil and labour the castle was re-opened in 1932. Narrative gained from The Official website where they have a good vitual tour inside the castle at- http://www.eileandonancastle.com/ I bacame a Grandad for the second time late last night, my son Antony and Jade became the proud parents of a little boy. Thanks for looking, Alan.

Excellent pov for this shot Alan, I didn't take many pictures on my tour of Scotland, it was before I had a decent camera. Congratulations to Antony and especially Jade on the Birth of their first son and to you as a Grandad of course. Looking at this it seems like you had a good break up in Bonnie Scotland, you will have to put your pics on your pen drive for the club on Friday. We haven't been for two weeks either. Superb capture, love the foreground seaweed and the three arch bridge. Bravo!!!!! Hope you and Sylvia had a great time.

With my mind's eye I can place a line of mounted men, carrying shields and banners of peace as they trot across the stone bridge. A stunning shot, indeed.
