Description

Captured 7/14/08, very early in the morning, within the confines of my condominium complex. I'm puzzled, and need help identifying this beautiful species with the diaphanous petals. To me the flower is esoteric; a variety of lily, allium or onion plant perhaps? I've seen it growing in three different spots around town and neigboring communities. The flowers shown in the photos are part of the general landscaping and not in anyone's patio. Otherwise I would have asked the resident what it was. I'm a photographer, Jim, not a botanist. Hopefully one or more of the expert flora connoisseurs out there in RR has the answer. Thankx for the visit, and have a momentous Monday. HOLD THE PHONE! HOLD THE PHONE! I believe we have a winner, ladies and gentlemen! See GBCalls' and my comments below.

Looks like part petunia but only the arboretum would know for sure.

Excellent shots, Harry! It looks a little bit like a Peruvian lily, which I once grew and which has the most wonderful, heavy perfume. It's not though. It's just similar, but I'm sure it's in the lily family. Have you googled it?

It appears GBCalls called it right, or as close as you can get it. I just Googled the Cahaba Lily, and it is about as close to the photos shown above as you can get. Not exactly the same variety, but it'll do until something better comes along!

So fascinating stuff Harry. Reminds me of the delicate jellyfish only found deep in the ocean in totaly darkness. Wonderful pure white.

It is a beautiful and delicate flower! Looks like it could exist in the sea with the long tentacles.

Hi Harry, I've seen this flower before just recently here on RR , but I have no clue what they are!!! My flower and bug books are at home :) I'm at work, sneaking this in. Whatever they are, they are gorgeous... and would love to have them in my own flower garden.
