Snake-Eye! by tizjezzme

While I was out back trimming some trees and weeding the hosta beds yesterday, Dani came to me with a snake in her hand; she said Casper and Boris were 'playing with it'. :| (They are my cats) The snake only had a minor scratch underneath, so he's fine. But I had to capture a few shots of the two of them together; I suggest she put it by her eye (hindsight is 20/20, I'm not so sure that was a smart thing to suggest lol) but it all worked out. These garter snakes are harmless for the most part. (Thank you Piet for the assistance on this crop!) So, another rescue story from me. Seems I'm constantly rescuing animals, critters & bugs around here. :) Hope you all had a nice start to the new work week! Thanks for stopping by, and for any comment you decide to leave. Shari

Excellent! The snake really appears to be coming forward. Great use of shallow DOF.

Hmm, which one is the snake eye? Oh, I see it now, in the background! ^_^ Very nice photo!

outstanding macro work... i love the human eye in backround
Meowgli
wonderful shot, brilliant framing, dof, focus... just a great shot!

Not a bird? Humm...lots of critter it seems and that is a good thing. Garter snakes are harmless but do often have a disposition to bite and spray...neat shot, quite neat in front of her out of dof face. Out latest was a 3 foot chicken snake on the lower step of the front deck entrance to our home. No photos, the snake simply "walked" away.

If a snake can be cute, this one is, love the clarity of his face.

Now here I thought I was toeing the line sometimes while your D holds this python for the camera! :-| LOL I get carried away, it's only a black mamba. Well wise or not, the composition is excellent and has such symbolic value and your DOF is excellent. Perfect blend between the clear part and the components in the background.

We live somewhat near the largest mating den for Garter's in North America{Narcisse,Manitoba}...they emerge in the late spring in what scientists call "balls"...literally dozens of males swarming a lone female{reminds me of...well,men!}...ours up here usually have a red stripe on each side and they STINK when they spray and will bite...so careful next time....Ray!

Nice shot. I'll bet the snake was quite happy to be away from the cats and didn't mind having it's picture taken at all.

You have secured you spot in heaven by helping these little critters out. I'm glad that you aren't freaked out by snakes or you wouldn't have gotten this well thought out shot. Excellent work Shari, well conceived and shot! Aloha~

Wow. I love the crop and I love the compo. I'll let you rescue snakes...I'll rescue anything but! But my daughter has no problem bringing home snakes too.

I bet the snake was glad to get away from the cats grin Now you can capture and grab all the snakes you can find...but not me no sir or rather no mam not me.....I love to watch documentary's about snakes but that's about it... At Walmart a few years back..there was a guy there and me and my girlfriend...walked up and she said "Come on Susan, let's get out pic took with the yellow python." I cringed...she begged.......next thing I knew the yellow snake was over my shoulder and I was crying........begging for him to take the snake off me..I almost wet myself....now I can see you all laughing but I am terrified of snakes and mice.......will touch about anything but no snakes no mice...lost the pic wish I coudl find it to upload it.....I was crying when he took the snake off me...I truly thought I was gonna have a heart attact........ They might be pets to some people but not to me...they belong inside of cool rocks in a canyon.....or even a river bed....not looped over someone's shoulder grin All in all this is a great pic of the snake....no doubt....and it does look like he is sorta smiling for the camera......Please forgive the rambling:( Better that Casper and Boris found the snake instead of me grin Excellent capture...and please forgive the delay in e bots...I have been in the hospital.......not been doing well at all.....and Oncologist found another lump....I go for test Aug 11th right in the same spot where I was first diagnosed with cancer in 93.... I uploaded a new one do hope you drop by and come give me a look see as well Hugs Susan~
