Description
No more stag beetles, I promise... Although it is difficult to see the female, she is there and the male on the left-hand side is guarding her and let her eat...etc. But if another male approaches, there will be a fight; not a very serious one -- the aim is only to throw down the other one from the stem. (Interestingly, a male will instinctively try to throw down any sizeable beetle -- also those belonging to other species.)
This picture is rather old (color slide), which you may notice on the quality.
