Description

Do you remember the Garitta, the military construction erected in the sixteenth century to defend the town from Turkish incursions ships? A first photo I inserted some time ago. It had been taken against the light morning ... like atmosphere was more evocative ... but in this one, taken in the afternoon sunlight, you can see better its structure and the path that leads to it with the remains of ancient walls!

Wonderful photo, Maria. Yes i remember.. near your son's summer residence or something like that. Much better to see it in clear weather. It is fantastic architecture. Much of the most amazing architecture in the world is from the 16.th century. In these times they wanted it to look beautiful at all cost. And it is great that it still stands after 400 years. Wonder if the houses constructed in our time survives for 400 years :) I guess not. Most are bad architecture anyway haha...+5

The new houses are not just bad architecture ... but they also ruin the landscape! Thanks, Lars!!! :)

The path is cleverly leading one to the building. Great colors of the sea.

It must have been battered brutally in bad weather by the sea. And still it has managed to not wash out completely. A fabulous shot! The eye travels along the water's edge and right out on the spit of land.

Yes, Robert ... the rocks are lava! The entire coastal strip running from Catania to Acireale is made up of Etna lava! :)

Mina, the town is Acireale (near Catania), which has in Santa Tecla and other coastal towns, its outlet to the sea! :)
