Description
Captured back on 3/6/07 at the El Dorado Park Nature Center in Long Beach, California.
Photo on the left is the original; the one on the right was postworked with an anistropic diffusion filter. Purists among you may disagree, but I prefer the filtered version.
Much better viewed close up for full impact.
Not the best resolution, but you get the idea.
For those who site messaged me and/or were concerned for my safety vis-a-vis the 5.4 magnitude earthquake that struck the general Los Angeles area yesterday, other than some rattled nerves, I survived it fine. I've been through a score of quakes in my lifetime, but just can't used to them because of the suddenness of the event and unpredictability in length and severity of the shaker. No warning, just instant shake, rattle and roll. In this case, the epicenter wasn't too far from my place. This may surprise you, but my biggest fear is being caught soaking wet and all lathered up in the shower when and if a big one hits. The ramifictions are mind boggling. I would be traumatized for life if that were ever to occur.
As for my dwelling, the only damage inflicted was a skewered doorjamb in the upstairs bedroom entrance, which makes it extremely difficult to open and close the door. I'll have to file/plane off the top of the door for it to open and shut properly. Not the first time.
Good old California, God's favorite punching bag.
Thankx for the visit, and have a happy hump day.

We rock and rolled pretty good here :) It was long enough to get up and decide if I should duck for cover :) The news channels really hammed it up though... hours and hours of news coverage over a little earthquake... geez. Anyway, love the tree bark.

The filtered one is more like a cork tree or balsa. It is softer. Cottonwood is enough.

For different reason I like both. Sharp image with great details always a pleasure to see on the other hand thou that filter you used made a texture more interesting. Thanx for the report on a quake damage.

I like the one on the right; it's just a bit softer. And yeah, earthquakes rattle you to the very core; about 15 years ago, we had, THREE, count em, THREE in one weekend, nerves were shot, houses were trashed and people lived in tents in some places for months.

Lovely photo! I prefer the left one, but do see some appeal on the right. Clever stuff!

Hmm, do you know how many hours I spent in El Dorado Park in my teenage years? I probably saw this very tree in its youth! I don't miss the earthquakes there, though, I've been through plenty in my lifetime. Well, I like how you softened the wrinkles around this arboreal bunghole...once you start seeing "nature" in nature it's hard NOT to see it! Glad you're mostly intact after the shake...let me go off and dig up one of MY tree shots for you!

It is a very nice effect. I'm wrestling with myself whether I like it better or not....

Oooooohh. I like this a lot. I'm glad you're okay, and nothing got broken in the earthquake! I wasn't too worried ... 5.4 isn't that severe ... but I'm glad to hear all is well, my friend!

Glad you made it through, we have tiny shudders here in the UK that alarm the whole country with news flashes etc. and always a major talking point for the next day etc. Can't imagine what it would do to us if we had a REAL one!

nice photo...

I am amazed at both! Glad to hear about your safety. LOL@ being caught in the shower, I would say it's silly, but then I have only felt a little tremor twice in my life.

wow, what a gorgeous textures, thank God you are safe...I can remember an earthquake we have here, it was really scary, shaking beds and floor, I was really scared......

Fantastic work./

I like them both but prefer the one on the left if truthful. The right hand one looks manufactured to me, something you might find in Disneyland. The original has fantastic texture. Excellent capture and postwork. Bravo!!!!!

Super pics, I like them both for different reasons. Re. earthquake, etc. clean underwear must be a must, or a good quality long nightshirt. One of the advantages of being female is that a single long garment will suffice in an emergency.

wonderful looking . both is good

"Gods favorite punching bag" ... LOL I just love your sense of humor harry. God, I wouldn't know what I'd do if I felt the earth move under my feet :) its been so long .. oh yeah, thats right, we're talking about earthquakes now.. lol anyway, great tree shot ... being a postwork queen myself, I like the postworked one the best too :) take care of yourself ..

A lovely trio of tree bark images you have posted, Harry, and this one is my favorite. That filter works so well on tree trunks and you did a fine job with it. I am so relieved to hear that you are allright! I immediately thought of you and Kimmie, John and Linda, and the other RR members, when I heard the news. So glad that the damage was minimal and that police, rescuers, lather and snickers were not part of your experience! :)
